RALEIGH – ACC player of the year and second-team All-American Julius Hodge will stay at NC State for his senior year.
Behind the play of Hodge, the Wolfpack placed second in the ACC regular season and made its third consecutive NCAA Tournament.
He is staying in school to earn his degree. Hodge promised his mother he would graduate from NC State.
Hodge scored 18.6 points per game last season and led the conference in shooting percentage (51.3).CHICAGO – Sammy Sosa hit two home runs April 18 but the Cubs lost to Cincinnati 11-10 in a wild shootout at Wrigley Field.
Sosa’s two home runs moved him past Ernie Banks for the most home runs hit in a Cubs uniform. Sosa now has 514 homers as a Cub and 543 total in his career. He’s hit more than 60 home runs in a season three times (66 in 1998, 63 in 1999 and 64 in 2001).

INDIANAPOLIS – BCS conferences make money. Non-BCS conferences are in the red.
A recent NCAA study found the six BCS conferences doubled their operating revenues over the last ten years.
Five conferences – the Big East, Mid-American, Western Athletic, Sun Belt, and Conference USA reported net deficits each of the last ten years.
The largest profit was earned by the SEC. The next highest, in descending order, were the Big Ten, Big 12, and the Mountain West.
