Rumors of a proposed parking lot ran rampant recently, but are no longer a nuisance. John Jenkins, associate CFO for facilities, confirmed that there will not be a parking lot built in the Meadows despite the equipment sitting there. The equipment on the property is being stored there by a local construction company doing nearby work unrelated to Guilford. Guilford is allowing the storage of the equipment simply because the school is a good neighbor.
A construction worker said that the land, scarred by the equipment’s tracks, was to be restored to its “original condition,” after their job is finished.
There is no official policy on the Meadows as of now. This means there is no plan to build anything on the lot – although there has been talk of using the land to build more apartment complexes for Guilford students.
Trustees believe we should “protect and hold on to” the land.
“Land like the Meadows is rare in this city and we should save this land in case we must build something we absolutely need,” said Ariana DeToro-Forlenza, a Guilford student who was against the idea of building the parking lot.
