Reason number 18 you should check out the Guilfordian website: If you write a letter to the editor claiming Don McNemar is an alien, I might actually publish it online. You think the editor-in-chief and faculty advisor actually read the stuff that we put on the Web? Other than cyber journalism’s loose ties with “objective truth,” as those fossils of print journalism call it, there are a lot of great reasons to check our website. For starters, we have an archive of over 200 articles and even more syndicated material from our partner College Publisher. I know you probably aren’t interested in a trustees meeting from last year, but if you want to know more about FedEx, or other important issues, our website can offer valuable context in understanding the issues the Guilfordian brings to you.
More importantly, you can get an idea of what the campus is feeling through our polls which will ask a question about the week’s lead story. Two weeks ago, when we reported on the new alcohol awareness grant, you might be interested to know that our poll revealed that 77% of respondents thought the changes to the policy would have little or no positive effect. Of course these polls are only as important as the number of people who participate, so we need you get online and join.
There’s also lots of fun stuff on the website that you can’t get anywhere else. Starting this week we’ll have games, features, and the never-before-published “69 reasons you should check out the Guilfordian website.”
This week’s game is to nominate your choice for Guilford’s next president. Feel free to give the reasoning behind your choice. The most original and fun nomination wins. If you win you get fame, glory, and a $20 gift certificate to Elizabeth’s Pizza.
I personally nominate Tom Petty. I think he molds the best of the South and hippie qualities – like Guilford needs to do better. We could have a “Free Falling” fundraising campaign and an annual “Last Dance with Mary Jane” dance at Serendipity.
