93 year-old driver fails road test, wrecks

On Tuesday, Virginia Phillips, 93, failed her road test at the Department of Motor Vehicle’s office on Silas Creek Parkway.
License Examiner Mary Evans asked Phillips to find another parking space and then return to the office. Phillips drove recklessly through the parking lot, struck a small wall bordering the property, and then drove in reverse across two northbound lanes.

Aubrey Nosco Jones, 64, died Saturday while trying to extinguish a mattress fire. Officials believe that Jones was smoking in bed when the fire started and died from smoke inhalation while trying to put out the flames.

Earl N. Phil Phillips, Jr., of High Point, now has U. S. Senate approval for an ambassadorship in the Eastern Caribbean. Phillips was appointed by President Bush last year and will be based on the island of Barbados.
