So a Quaker and an Eastern
Mennonite walk into a gym …The Quakers (14-9) taught
the Eastern Mennonite Royals a
little something about housekeeping
last Sunday when they
defeated them 71-55. The victory
marks the Quakers’ third
straight win and secures their
first winning season since
1988-89.
Excitement abounded as
Guilford snapped a 14-14 tie
with a 9-0 run in the first quarter.
After assuring a 37-25
halftime lead, the Quakers
scored the first six points of the
second half, going on to gain a
22-point lead with only 6:04
minutes remaining.
The team’s effort was accentuated
by some outstanding individual
performances.
Senior center Aron
McMillian was among four players
who scored in double digits.
He landed 10 of his 12 shots
during the first half. McMillian
also snatched seven rebounds,
the most in the game.
Sophomore forward Josh
Connor finished with 11 points,
six boards, five assists, three
steals, and a blocked shot.
The highest scorer was
rookie forward E.J. Arrington.
He led the team with 15 points.
Not a single Guilford starter
played for more than 24 minutes
on Sunday, giving us an opportunity
to savor the skills of some
of the other players. Off the
bench, sophomore forward
Jevon Clarke scored 12 points,
and sophomore forward Thomas
Swindell added 10 points
and five boards.
Oh the points, the
progress, and the poor, defeated
Eastern Mennonite Royals.
For Guilford’s men’s basketball
team, it’s all part of cleaning
house.
