The following positions are available to interested individuals. Unless otherwise noted, inquiries should be directed to Editor-in-Chief elect James Tatum (X3954), [email protected] Editor: Train staff in the use of computer layout for publications when necessary. Assist section editors and assistant layout editors in achieving quality layout for all sections. Edit layout in all sections. Communicate with advertising manager to maintain awareness of necessary space taken for ads. Attend weekly production meeting, or appoint a layout representative to attend in your place. Make sure all pictures are in their correct format to be correctly reproduced in the printed version of the paper. Work with the printer to maintain a healthy relationship. Create and maintain the template for the newspaper.
Photography Editor: Organize assignment of photographs to staff photographers, and coordinate photo development. Maintain and update photo archive ensuring that all photos are filed correctly and have all necessary information (names of those pictured, name of photographer, activity observed.). Regularly assist with recruiting staff photographers by aiding with general Guilfordian publicity and creating specific flyers/posters. Could work with web editor to create on-line photo galleries, if interested. Attend weekly editorial and post-production meetings.
Visual/Arts Editor: Work with section editors, layout staff, photography editor and writers to develop graphics and other visual elements (i.e. text boxes) to enhance the appearance of the paper. Experience with photography, Photoshop a plus.
Assistant Layout Editors: Oversee the layout for a section of the newspaper, app. 2-4 pages. Weekly responsibilities include importing stories into PageMaker, scanning photos and advertisements and working with them in Photoshop, and creating visually appealing layouts. No PageMaker or layout experience required; however, a creative flair, attention to detail, and the ability to meet deadlines are vital components of the job. Assistant Layout Editors are expected to work closely with the layout editor and graphic design artists to oversee the visual appearance of the paper.
Graphic Design Artists: Assist with developing and tweaking graphics, advertisements, and other visual elements of the paper. Experience with photography, Photoshop a plus. Could also work with web department to develop additional visuals for the web-page. Graphic Design Artists are expected to work closely with the layout editor and assistant layout editors to oversee the visual appearance of the paper.
