It is almost fall break. Any sane person would be tired of Papa John’s by now.
No single delivery restaurant in Greensboro can be rated as truly superior in its significance to Guilford College students. After all, none are allowed to deliver beer. However, a few stand out as true gifts to the couch-locked undergraduate.
Way Out Wings (545-0787) serves 12 different flavors of chicken wings. Honey mustard and golden barbecue are my favorite flavors, but don’t order “inferno” unless you want to cry. Their appetizers, burgers, chili dogs, subs, salads, and pita sandwiches are also recommended in case wings alone won’t do it for you.
Little Italy (668-4414) makes a truly authentic New York style pizza unlike anywhere else in Greensboro. A large cheese from Little Italy costs the same as one from Papa John’s, so give it a try. Falafel, hummus and pita are available and particularly good at this place.
Rome Pizza (292-9999) is the place to call for sandwiches and calzones. Try a 12″ Rome Special steak and cheese with everything on it for $5.99. Their calzones are big and doughy enough to absorb all the alcohol in your stomach and you will still have a half left over for breakfast. Their Buffalo wings are good too, and cheaper than Way Out Wings. Their pizza is nothing special.
King House (299-8868) delivers high-quality Chinese food for low prices. The food is not the Americanized, MSG-filled garbage that other so-called Chinese restaurants serve to folks that don’t know any better. No dish costs more than five dollars per pint. King House only opened last year, so they are not listed in the phonebook yet.
India Palace (379-0292, www.IndiaPalaceGreensboro.com) is the best Indian restaurant in Greensboro and the only one that delivers. I have traveled the globe eating Indian food, even in India, so believe me when I say this food is authentic. Lots of vegetarian dishes are available, as well as those with chicken, lamb, fish, or shrimp. India Palace’s secret is all in the spices. Ask to have the curry extra spicy and it really will blow your head off. Or they can tone it down for those unwilling to deflower their virgin palate. Debilitating flashbacks of India are triggered by these recipes. Do I hear sitar music?
