“I want to see an aggressive student council,” said sophomore Jeff Tang, treasurer of the newly elected early college program student governing body.A major role the student council will perform is distributing club charters.
Forshey is in the process of planning a fall festival in order to raise funds for the new clubs. The student council currently has zero funding. “I want change, I want to help make a difference,” said Forshey.
Some students are skeptical about how much of a difference the student council will make. “I know we have a student council, but they act like they don’t exist,” said freshman Luke Tuck.
Faculty members are impressed by the initiative students have taken in student government. “I don’t remember a single faculty meeting where we decided to have a student council,” said Charlotte Jones, an English teacher for the early college program, “The students assumed from the beginning there would be a student council.”

The new Early College Student Council officers are senior David Boy, president, sophomore Theresa Forshey, vice president, Jeff Tang, treasurer, sophomore Robin Alton, secretary, and sophomore Krista McCoy, historian/parliamentarian. The tenth-grade representatives are Joy Pinnix and Camden Vaughn and the ninth-grade representatives are Bita Emrani and Kevin Lynagh.
