Last Monday AnnaMalia Ticknor, Laura Wigand and I piled into a car at the ungodly hour of 7:30 in the morning. We were on our way to attend an Environmental Purchasing conference that was being held at Duke University. After arriving early, checking in, and imbibing some caffeine we were ready to learn. At first the amount of information was overwhelming, but as the day progressed we realized great potential for change.
By lunchtime we were all excited about the possibilities for Guilford. There are scores of projects we can do to improve our school’s environmental impact: from increased recycled paper content to alternative energy on campus. We realized that there were many people already working on these things and that our first step is to start networking amongst student’s faculty and staff. Also we realized that these are things that we cannot just keep to our selves. We decide that after speaking to the appropriate people we would like to start a committee to work on these projects. We wanted to share what we learned with the Guilford community and work to make our school an even better place to live and work.
We have started to formulate ideas and are going to use a newly created share space to network: look under general college discussion groups the title is Guilford College Environmental Forum. If you are interested in learning more or being part of the change that is underway please check out this link.
