Sometimes one of the greatest and most gratifying moments in life can be seeing the person you truly loathe have their reputation destroyed and their career absolutely ruined. It is for this reason only that recently my eyes have lit up and my heart has fluttered with the appearance of U.S. President George W. Bush’s face on CNN or the front page of The New York Times. I do not find myself alone in the intense enjoyment that I gain from seeing Bush go down in flames, a kamikaze president selflessly killing his reputation for his vendetta against our constitutional rights. Recent polls have shown Bush’s approval ratings slipping close to 30 percent, leaving him the most unpopular president ever in the life of traditional-aged college students.
And now, aside from being simply unpopular, Bush has found himself staring into possible impeachment proceedings, should the Democrats gain control of Congress at mid-term elections.
Some may say that it is unpatriotic for me to gain such a demented pleasure from witnessing the failure of our executive branch. To these people I ask, did the Germans who did not rejoice at the fall of Adolf Hitler have the interests of Germany any more at heart than the people who celebrated the fall of the dictator? I seriously doubt it.
Others may ask me how I can justifiably compare Bush with Hitler. I must admit that it must seem somewhat of a stretch, and even though I cannot fully justify the comparison, it somehow holds water in my mind. I hate Hitler; I hate Bush. I think that is all the justification I really need.
Now, I want to explain that I am not completely ignorant in my opinions on Bush – I actually have some evidence to support my presidential prejudices.
First, Bush is dumb. I am dumb too, but I can at least brag about getting away with more of my illegal activities than Bush has managed to do. Someone who cannot even break the law in an intelligent way has no place in politics.
Second, Bush is crooked. Bill Clinton was impeached for lying to the American people about his sexual affairs, but Bill’s lie never hurt anybody but Hillary. Lies from within the Bush administration have cost the lives of 30,000 Iraqis and 2,000 American soldiers; yet Clinton gets impeached for lying about the stain’s on his secretary’s dress, and Bush is left in office to add some more fuel to the fire that is consuming his presidency.
Also, with Bush’s wire taps and CIA leaks, he has been and continues to jeopardize American security and constitutional rights. If Clinton had even thought of something like that, Kenneth Starr would have had him out of office in a heartbeat.
Ever since I saw Bush’s smile light up the TV screen in the 2000 election, and heard him utter one hilarious Bush-ism after another, I have waited anxiously for the moment he would screw up enough to cause him some problems. It seems that maybe he has finally proven himself as dumb and crooked as we had all hoped and expected, and perhaps this time he will not be able to escape his troubles unscathed.
