The fall sports season finished up this week. Following up on my fall sports predictions, here comes the fall sports review on how the teams actually did.
Some of my predictions were dead on and some of my predictions were dead wrong.
Football (Final 0-10, 0-6 ODAC)
The Quakers’ football team had a disappointing year on the field. The team had soaring spirits and a bright outlook coming into the season.
I predicted the Quakers’ to finish out the season fourth in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC). The Quakers’ season ended with a 27-3 loss to Emory & Henry College.
The team had the first winless season in 38 years. I don’t believe anybody in the Guilford community could have predicted the season to end up the way it did.
This was far from how I considered the season would play out. It was a hard-fought season for the Quakers this year.
The team can only look to build and improve on their 0-10 season next year.
Men’s Soccer (Final 10-6-3, 6-3-1 ODAC)
The men’s soccer team won the most games since the 2003 season. My predictions were almost right on track.
The Quakers actually did better than I had predicted them to do. I predicted the team to finish up fifth in the ODAC, when they really tied for fourth in the conference.
With a few ties gone the other way, the Quakers could have done even better.
Their season ended in the quarterfinals of the ODAC tournament with a 4-2 loss to Randolph College.
The team looks to have a big group of returners coming back next year and to continue to rise in the ODAC ranks.
Women‘s Soccer (Final 6-11-2, 3-6-2 ODAC)
The women’s soccer team had a decent season this year. They came in ranked eighth in the preseason poll by the ODAC.
The preseason poll was correct with predicting that the Quakers would finish eighth in the conference. I thought the team would do better when I predicted them to finish sixth in the ODAC.
They finished their season in the ODAC tournament with a 9-0 loss to Lynchburg College in the quarterfinals.
Junior Bri Eilman earned Second Team All-ODAC honors. The team could return with as many as 20 players for next year.
Volleyball (Final 16-13, 5-5 ODAC)
The Quakers volleyball team lost to Virginia Wesleyan in the quarterfinals of the ODAC tournament.
The team continued to improve with a sixth-place finish in the ODAC.
The preseason poll tabbed the team to finish in eighth place. I correctly predicted the Quakers to come in sixth place in the ODAC.
I believed the Quakers were going to continue to improve when I made my predictions and they did just that.
Guilford wrapped up its best volleyball season since 1995 with a 16-13 overall record.
The veterans led the team with the experience they brought to the court.
Sophomore Brittany Freeman earned Second Team All-ODAC honors.
Also, junior Taylor Phillips was an honorable mention selection.
