Age: 73
Party: Republican
Lived in Greensboro: 59 years
Incumbent or challenger: Incumbent
What is your position on the White St. Landfill?
Knight supports re-opening the landfill for economic reasons, saying that we are losing millions a year trucking our garbage out of the city.
What is your plan for economic progression in Greensboro?
It is hard to answer this question without Knight’s input. He is a fiscal conservative, and was quoted by Yes! Weekly in a candidates forum this year as saying Greensboro is in “an enviable position” economically, compared to some other cities, and that we should prepare for “that proverbial rainy day.”
How do you plan to reach out to college students to get them more involved in civic life?
Again, this is a hard question to answer. However, Knight’s council presided over a decision not to fund a student organizing group called Ignite Greensboro after the group mobilized to organize a student protest against the White Street Landfill.
What changes do you want to see in the city during your time in office?
Based on his responses to the candidate forum quoted above, Knight favors continuing the fiscal policies of his administration. Possibly the biggest change he would like to see is the reopening of the White Street Landfill.
