This is a cautionary tale about the detriments of the typical first-world lifestyle. Sounding laid back and dreary on his first solo album, Albarn concocts some obnoxiously catchy tunes, as usual, with his pop piano/vocal songwriting style. Everyday Robots features beautifully melancholy violins and distantly dissonant piano riffs. The mildly disinterested sound of Albarn’s voice adds to the content of the lyrics and the sound of each song. As with Gorillaz, the album as a whole contains a lot of diversity, yet the individual songs are lacking, and repetition is heavily implemented. While bordering on stagnancy in certain places, the repetition complements Albarn’s catchy melodies and progressions. However, it’s a little too poppy for my taste as a whole.
