Go! Fight! Win! Let’s go Quakers!

Guilford’s Cheer and Dance Team engages in enthusiastic chants, rhythmic clapping and moves that groove.

Got spirit? Guilford’s new Cheer and Dance Team sure does, as they exhibited their moves on
the quad in front of Founders Hall during the three-week session. The team is full of lively
energy preparing to cheer on the Quakers this 2019-2020 academic school year.

According to the Guilford Buzz posting by Lideah Shively, a member of the team, the cheer and dance team is for students who “enjoy cheer and dance, want to help promote Quaker pride and hype up the games or just want to have fun.”

Tanequa “TT” Armstrong is a senior at Guilford and the captain of this burgeoning team. Along with three other members of the group, she is responsible for coming up with all the cheers and teaching them in smaller sections of the group. According to Armstrong, a typical practice begins with stretching and cardio, followed by rehearsing old and new cheer routines. Then team members break off into smaller sections if needed and come back together for a short meeting and goodbye chant.

Currently the team has 30 members and has been practicing once a week. All practices are
videotaped so that members can review them later. You can expect to see them on the
basketball court soon.

“As of right now, we are in preparation for doing cheers for the basketball season and hopefully, fingers crossed, homecoming!” Armstrong said.

If you love cheering or would like to venture into something new, the Guilford College Cheer and Dance Team may be for you. Keep an eye out for the next club fair or contact TT Armstrong at [email protected] for more information.
