Wu Opera Troupe brings unique art form to Greensboro and Guilford
Chinese opera at Guilford? It’s more likely than you think!
On Tuesday, Sept. 10, the Wu Opera Troupe of Yiwu City performed in Dana Auditorium after previous Triad performances at the N.C. Folk Festival in downtown Greensboro and Tew Recital Hall on the UNC-Greensboro campus. In this video story, Guilford senior Ramya Krishna, a student in the three-week Journalism Boot Camp class, interviews a representative from the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries. This group helped organize the Wu Opera Troupe’s trip to the U.S.
The video story also incorporates clips from the troupe’s Sept. 10 performance at Guilford and background about this art form—a combination of drama, instrumental and vocal music and martial arts. As described on the N.C. Folk Festival website, Wu Opera’s unique artistry springs from its rural roots in eastern China’s Zhejiang Province.
