A new Dunkin’ Donuts location has just opened up on College Road, just across the street from campus. With the convenience of being so close by, it’s no wonder that it would be hot on the radar of many Guilford College students.
The new location is open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., and even has a drive-thru for those students who have cars. And for those who do not, and don’t want to walk, they will deliver through Doordash.
The distance is definitely a pro. Even as someone with mobility issues that has difficulty walking long distances, the Dunkin’ Donuts was not too far to walk comfortably, only taking roughly 10 minutes to get there from a starting point around the Binford parking lot.
Arriving at the location, the atmosphere is almost humorously odd — with several students commenting that the building looks more like a bank than it does a donut shop. The interior is much of the same, being primarily gray and having a very clean and minimalistic design. There’s simple seating options, with tables and chairs to sit down inside and enjoy the food and drinks, and the large windows allow customers to enjoy the natural lighting, which can be nice in the morning. There was not any music either, lending the space to a quiet and easy place to sit for a bit and have breakfast while waking up for the day.
Ordering was easy, with the option of either an automated kiosk similar to the ones in the McDonalds, or ordering the traditional way with a member of staff. Either way, the food comes out quite quickly and with no errors.
The menu was what you’d expect for a Dunkin’ Donuts location, having a wide array of donuts to choose from, as well as plenty of breakfast sandwiches, wraps and a variety of coffee items. During my few visits to the establishment, I ordered a few different things, and never ran into any issue. The prices were, again, on par with other locations, and reasonable for what you got. The food was fresh, and never took longer than five minutes to be ready.
The donuts were fresh and flavorful, exactly what you’d expect from Dunkin’ Donuts. The coffee, too, was exactly as expected, having ordered an iced coffee. Sweet, cold and a great way to wake up. Though, during my visit they were heavily advertising their returning Dunkalatte — their first-ever coffee milk latte which sold out last fall — only for them to inform me they couldn’t make it, and made me an iced coffee instead. It worked out, since that’s what I had originally intended to get anyway, but it would’ve been disappointing if I’d come for the limited item.
The staff was very friendly, and despite managing the counter and drive-thru, never seemed rushed or short with customers. While I did not personally try the drive-thru, it seemed to move quite fast.
Looking online, the Dunkin’ Donuts has a 2.8/5 stars on Google reviews, with the primary issue from customers being the service. While I never personally had any issue with the employees, that could be something to potentially be aware of, particularly in the drive-thru, according to many of the reviews.
Overall, I’d rate the new Dunkin’ Donuts a solid 5/5 stars, with the only possible complaint I would have being with the interior. And really, how important is interior design when it comes to good donuts for a cheap price.
Walking distance, affordable and open at convenient times; it is a solid Dunkin’ Donuts, and a great place to grab some breakfast before class.
