Kyle Farmbry installed as Guilford College’s 10th president
On March 18, Kyle Farmbry was installed as Guilford College’s 10th president.
The day of the installation began with a Celebration of Community at 1 p.m. in Dana Auditorium. The event’s speakers included Hope Williams, President of North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities, Greensboro City Manager Taiwo Jaiyeoba and Guilford Student Body Association President Tinyah Ervin, a senior. After the board of trustees officially delegated his presidential duties, Farmby delivered remarks to members of the Guilford community, emphasizing the importance of togetherness in building a brighter future for the College.
“This is a place where we are building our own notion of a beloved community, a community that is founded on a set of ethical and responsible norms, a community that aims to solve some of the broader challenges in the world,” Farmbry said. “…It is this community, our beloved Guilford community, where I say welcome, walk with us, and join us in celebrating our history as an institution, and more importantly join us in celebrating the institution that we are committed to becoming.”
At 2 p.m., Farmbry participated in a tree-planting ceremony on the Guilford College quad, adjacent to Duke Memorial Hall, to memorialize the lives of Guilford community members lost over the past year.
Also at 2 pm., the Student and Community Justice Fair on Founders Lawn highlighted Guilfordians’ achievements in advancing social justice, civic engagement and community service, with plenty of food and activities for children and families.
Finally, Guilford community members attended a Looking Forward Reception at 3 p.m. in Founders Lobby and on Founders Terrace to recognize the positive impacts of faculty and staff, as well as to celebrate the efforts of those involved in Save Guilford College, the Guilford Forward Fund and other initiatives.
